CONCORD, CA - Bosco came in as an underdog. they went out as champions.
The Spartans had not lost a game on their home field since 1984. Trailing 21-14 in the 4th, Bosco scored only to have their reliable field goal kicker miss the extra point. De La Salle stalled and Bosco got the ball back with 1:13 left in the game. Brett Knief took the team down to the 3rd yard line where Murray made the winning field goal.

The Game of the Year in the United StatesBy Bob Galerstein

College football polls can be subjective; high school football somewhat more. But when a school becomes a state champion by earning it rather than through a vote, you have a basis for comparison.
Don Bosco Prep is the two time New Jersey State champ and the school of this decade in the Garden State. De La Salle of Concord, California, has not lost a game in 14 years. So it's reasonable to expect the rankings both schools have received entering this season; each no worse than seventh. One popular poll had De La Salle second and Don Bosco third. We believe the polls for probably the first time, a major New York City radio station, 1050 ESPN, will broadcast a high school game. It'll also be available on this website.
Yes, Don Bosco dropped it's opening game at St. Xavier, with Bosco twice have a first and goal inside the St. Xavier ten and emerging with just one field goal. But the irregularities from state to state allowed St. Xavier to start much earlier than the Ramsey, New Jersey school. St. X already had three games under its belt. Bosco's season opener was at the 110 acre campus of the Cincinnati school. We had the game live on the 1050ESPNRadio.com and it was obvious to me that Bosco was not in midseason form, especially with Brett Knief's passing game.
Listen to the interview on this page with Nunzio Campanile, the Athletic Director and Offensive Coordinator for Don Bosco. Nunzio will answer about the state of Don Bosco after two games, who will replace the injured Tony Jones and the logistics of a cross country trip involving a high school football team.
