On top of the Daily News' story, here are some other likely scenarios: Omar Minaya could be reassigned so John Ricco is the face of the front office, while Minaya still plays a vital role in player personell. They could, in effect, be co-GMs. Ricco would be the front man with the media.

Minaya still has three or so million coming to him so the Wilpons will likely not want to pay him to do nothing. Plus, they like Minaya.

Now, if the Mets want to do something more drastic, then Rays Sr. VP Gerry Hunsicker is expected to be considered. The Wilpons usually hire someone they know and Hunsicker is a former Met executive with a history of success.
