The Mets are starting to feel like they might have a chance to get back in the wild card race. What could really help is if someone like Reyes could return. Incredibly, but not surprisingly, Reyes now has been out since May 21st, more than two months, and there is no telling when he will return.
I asked Jerry Manuel, why it is taking Reyes so long to get back on the field. Manuel says it is because Reyes has a bad hamstring and his legs are so important to his game so they need to be just right. It is true that hamstrings are tricky, but baseball officials who have worked with Reyes say he likes to wait a little longer than most to get back.
